Rafael Mahecha |
I'm WORKING ON IT !!!!
Rafael Mahecha was born in Bogota, Colombia where he spent most of his youth.
In 1994, after finishing highschool, he decided to come to the US to attend one
of the local higher education institutions.
In 1995, Rafael was enrolled in Hinds Community College (HCC) to obtain an
Aerospace Engineering degree, which he was planning to finish at
Mississippi
State University (MSU).
In 1997, Jackson State University (JSU) offered him a
NASA-sponsored scholarship
to join the Meteorology Program (JSU MP). Since Rafael had no money at the time
to go to MSU, he decided to accept JSU's invitation, and in the same year he
enrolled at JSU MP. Rafael graduated Summa Cum Laude in May, 2000.
Thanks to the computer training he received at the ARMY High Performance Computing Research Centers (AHPCRC) in
Minnesota and Georgia, Rafael was offered a position as a Technical Assistant for the JSU MP to provide technical support for DOD, NASA
and NWS funded research projects. Mr. Mahecha currently works as Systems Administrator for the JSU MP supporting similar
research projects.
In addition to his "day job", Rafael pursues a Masters degree in Computer
Science at JSU and also is member and webmaster of the
Mississippi Hispanic
Association (MHA) since November 2004.
